STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Veterans Day is Saturday, so the federal holiday -- which marks the anniversary of the end of World War I and honors all U.S. veterans -- is actually observed on Friday.

Federal, state and city government offices and courts are closed on Friday.

The following is a list of what is open and what is closed on Staten Island, with separate listings for Friday and Saturday.

FRIDAY

Staten Island Advance: Will publish

Banks: Some open

Financial markets: Open

U.S. Post Offices: Closed

Sanitation: There is garbage, recycling, and organics collection. You can place your items curbside according to your normal schedule.

City Parking Violations Bureau: Parking meter regulations remain in effect.

Department of Motor Vehicles: Open

New York Public Library branches: Closed

Schools: All public schools are open.

Mass transit: The Staten Island Ferry runs on a normal weekday schedule. The Staten Island Railway runs on a normal weekday schedule. Buses also run on a weekday schedule.

SATURDAY

Staten Island Advance: Will publish
